If you run a network of any size, at home or at work, you'll probably find the need for a software that helps with keeping inventory of your hardware and software. And you may also need a program that can handle IT help desk issues. Most likely, you'll need an additional software that allows you to track network problems and solutions. Keeping track of it all can be mind boggling, but who needs multiple programs to complicate things? Spiceworks is a simple tool that can handle all of these issues combined, and it does it all for free.

With Spiceworks, it's easy to keep an inventory of the software and hardware on your network. The program can find any IP-based devices on your network, like servers, printers, or routers. It can also keep track of your software licenses and tag your software and hardware so you can reference and search for them later. All inventory data is securely stored on your network, so you never have to worry about your sensitive data falling into the wrong hands.

You can also receive alert notifications through email or SMS. It is easy to set up, and in no time you could be monitoring your networked hard drives for space issues. Be alerted when someone has added unwanted software or removed important software from their computer. Find out when a server has gone offline. You can customize how frequently you'd like to scan your network too, so you just need to set it up once and let Spiceworks take it from there. You can create custom reports to show software, trouble tickets, disk usage and more, then export those reports to PDF or Excel.

With Spiceworks, it's simple to track your projects and problems with tickets, because it gives you the ability to sort everything by due date and priority. It's an easy-to-use help desk system designed to make your job easier. If you ever have a question, you can ask the Spiceworks Community directly from within the Spiceworks IT Desktop. These questions are automatically tagged, directing them to the users who are best suited to assist you. And here's the topper, Spiceworks auto-updates, so you will never have to hassle with re-installs or update packs. In my opinion, this program is a must have for any network! C'mon, try it, I bet you'll agree... It's free, it's quick and easy to install and set up, so what do you have to lose?
