Managing Time

by Michael E. Callahan aka Dr. File Finder

Time In A Bottle

Time. So much has been said about it. "Time flies when you're having fun." or "Time waits for no man." There are days whenit seems like there just isn't enough time to get everythingdone. Things to do, appointments, obligations, children, spouses, church, after school activities, and lots more. Activities for business, activities for family.

Time. It's our most valuable commodity. While we can't make moreof it we can make more efficient use of our time. In the age ofcomputers we have some really effective ways to maximize our time. There are software programs that can help us list the things we need todo. Programs that can keep track of appointments and make sure we don'tforget them. There are personal information managers orPIMs that can monitor tasks, appointments, note, provide us witha calendar, and much more.

Managing Time

If you had a hundred people who all agreed that they needed a better wayto manage their time, you might also have 100 ways to do it. Differentpeople have different situations and different needs. Some people have aday that is dominated by appointments so they need to keep track oftime. One appointment at 9:30 another at 11:00. At the same time othershave a day that is dominated by tasks. That sometimes means that itdoesn't mean what time of the day they complete a task, but that theyneed to complete it sometime during a particular day.

I'll use myself as an example. My day is full of tasks. Ivery seldom have appointments and those are usually phone meetings orconference calls. So, time manager software that focuses on justappointments is of little use to me. I need something that lets me trackall of the tasks I have to get done. Some business people, however, would find a task-oriented program pretty much useless because theirfocus is on appointments. Meetings, conferences, lunch meetings, and soon.

Time Management Software

There are a wide range of software programs for dealing with timemanagement. From simple to-do lists managers to complex projectmanagers. Over the next four (4) weeks I'm going to review some programsthat can help you to manage your time more effectively. The programsI'll be looking at include:

I hope you'll me for the next four weeks as we look at some timemanagement and the different approaches that are taken.
