Note: Since by definition "smartphones" are phones that are also PDA's, the software reviewed here should work with personal digital assistants that are not "smartphones". Check the operating system because we'll be reviewing software for both Pocket PC and Palm devices. -- Editor

When I first got my Blackberry 8830 I started putting my shopping lists in the text tool. If I'm to be honest I have to say that I'm not the fastest at entering text on a Blackberry. So, when I found SplashShopper and tried it out I was impressed! You can use the program to keep track of things you're looking to buy like movies, cloths, gifts, and music, but I use it for groceries! I've done all the shopping in our house for the past 31 years, and I have it down to a science. To start off, SplashShopper comes with categories of foods like beverages, deli meats, canned goods, and so on. You can enter store information and prices so you'll know the price of say kidney beans at Kroger. As you select items it will actually add up the costs so you'll have an idea of what your grocery bill will be. In using SplashShopper I love the fact that I can sort in different ways. Sometimes I sort by prices, or by items, but my favorite way is to sort by category. In this way I can see all of the "Canned Foods" at once and select those I need. Another cool feature of the program is that you can edit the existing entries and create new ones. You can edit prices, add stores, change quantities, and so on. I've customized the copy of SplashShopper on my Blackberry 8830 so it's just the way I want it. I can go through, as I think of things, and mark them as needed. So, like right now, I have granola, Diet Pepsi, mustard, bologna, and a few other things already marked. Now, when I get ready to go shopping I can tell the program to just show me the needed items and viola - there's my shopping list.

You can use SplashShopper to handle a lot of gift-giving ideas. Enter in things that your family or friends have hinted about. Movies, music, and lots more. The program is highly customizable and very easy-to-use. I've come to like SplashShopper so much that it's not only a Pick, but I'm also making it one of my Dr. File Finder Favorites and in 25 years there haven't been a lot of those. Try it out for yourself. There are versions for Mac, Windows, and Blackberry. I recommend it!

If you have software you use on your "smartphone" or PDA, come and talk about it with us in the Forums. We look forward to seeing you there.
