Note: Since by definition "smartphones" are phones that are also PDA's, the software reviewed here should work with personal digital assistants that are not "smartphones". Check the operating system because we'll be reviewing software for both Pocket PC and Palm devices. -- Editor
Every once in awhile you may feel the need to get on your PC even when you're away from it. Different people approach this problem differently. Some use a service, like GoToMyPC or LogMeIn. Others use the Remote Desktop feature that comes with Windows XP. Still others use a product called VNC or Virtual Network Computing. VNC allows you to connect to to other computers and it works really well. What's really cool, however, is being able to connect to your PC from your Blackberry!
VNC+ gives you an easy way to access your computer from anywhere. I tested it out on both my laptop and my desktop. Another cool feature is that VNC+ can work on multiple platforms so you can use it if your PC is running Windows, Linux, or Mac OS. The program makes it quick and easy to connect to your computer simply by entering the IP address and password. Pow. You're connected and can do anything you need to do. I was impressed with how fast the connections seemed to be. VNC+ has some configurable options so you can make it work the way you want. I love the fact that you can scroll as well as zoom out and zoom in. The really killer is that you can actually install a program on your PC while logged in from your smartphone. Really very slick. I like VNC+ so much that it's not only a Pick, but I'm also making it a Dr. File Finder Favorite and those are few and far between. So, if you think you have the need to access files, email and more on your PC from your Blackberry device this is the program you need. Check it out.
