My name is Harold Holmes and I'm a computer programmer by trade and my company is Lincoln Beach Software. I've been using computers for about 23 years. My first computer was a Tandy Color Computer with 64k of memory. I think it ran OS/9 but I'm not 100% sure. My favorite work related program would have to be Delphi! I don't play many games but I do like Rainbow 6/Tom Clancy, and Roller coaster Tycoon.
I use a locally built Intel system with 512MB of memory with two hard drives. One's a 40 gigabyte drive and the other is 60 gigabytes. It has CD and DVD drives plus a USB Zip drive. I use a 19" Samsung flat screen LCD monitor, which I just love! My office glows in the dark as I have 4 computers each running a different operating system (OS) for testing. I have a Dell Axim X30 Pocket PC attached to my side as well.
I pretty much use the default scheme for Windows. Being trapped in the basement for so many hours I do like to rotate outdoor pictures for my wallpaper. The nature sounds coming from the speakers help me forget that I'm trapped in the basement. Well sometimes anyway. Though with so many windows open I don't get to see them very often. I try to keep the icon clutter to a minimum but at times 1/3 of the screen may be covered in them.
As for my favorite programs, I'd have to say:
Photoshop: I do a lot of graphic work for my customers and this program does everything that I need. It is pretty daunting at first but once you learn your way around it you can create anything. Black Hole Organizer: This program keeps track of all my notes, code snippets, pertinent content from various web sites.
ClipMate: I do a lot of copy/paste when processing orders, replying to emails and so forth. I've found this program to be the best at saving me time. Instead of retyping a standard reply I can just paste it in.
Second Copy 2000: I hate backing up, with so much data it takes to long. So I use this program and schedule my backups so that they happen when I'm away from my computer! Drag, drop, set the time and it does the rest for me.
In my line of work I also use programs such as Delphi, Firefox, FTP Voyager, Group Mail, and Xnews.
