Opera 5.01 for Windows Available Free Exclusively at Tucows

New York, NY (December 18, 2000) – Tucows Inc., the leading distributor of e-business services and applications on the Internet will offer the free version of Opera 5.01, the world’s fastest Internet browser, exclusively from December 18th to the 25th. Tucows (www.tucows.com), which operates the largest rated and reviewed software library on the Internet, will be the only site on the web to offer this latest, full-featured version of one of the world’s top browsers with Tucows Domain Direct, a fast, easy domain registration service, incorporated into the 5.01 for Windows browser. Tucows will distribute the Opera 5.01 for Windows browser via its extensive network of more than 1,000 Network Partners in 110 countries worldwide to ensure end users get a fast, local download.

Opera 5.01 for Windows, a third player besides AOL/Netscape and Microsoft’s Internet Explorer, offers advanced features to make web surfing faster and better. In its standard configuration, Opera is much smaller than other browsers and almost fits on a floppy disk, yet it is all you need to surf the web. The Opera browser supports all common Web standards needed to navigate the Internet, including markup languages (HTML and XML), network and security protocols (HTTP, SSL and TLS), style sheets (CSS1 & CSS2) and programming languages (Java and JavaScript). Opera 5.01 for Windows will be available for download from the Tucows site at: http://www.tucows.com/preview/63.html.

Tucows’ domain name registration service, Domain Direct, will be incorporated into the Opera 5.01 for Windows browser offering users the ability to easily register and manage domain names. Now users can search and register a domain name anytime by clicking on a link at the bottom of the browser. Users will also be able to set up multiple email accounts, forward domain names and manage their domains which is all included in the service.

“Tucows, and its global channel of affiliates, is a natural fit for us to distribute the latest Opera browser,” said Jakob Snilsberg, Distribution Manager, Opera Software. “We are excited to have the official launch of Opera 5.01 for Windows at one of the most trafficked web sites on the Internet.”

“Opera 5.01 is an incredible product and Tucows is committed to offering its global end users the latest and greatest software available,” said Dave Keating, Tucows, VP sales & marketing. “It is especially important for us to reach out to new users as they become more aware of the value of a smaller, faster, and widely compatible browser that conserves system resources.”
