Welcome to the pseudo-mechanical/medieval thieving game known as Thief 2. The world you live in is a dark and twisted one. Add to the fun by stealing 800 coins from the nobility and then ruin their fancy machine in the depths of the hidden fortress. Use the rooftops, or the "thieve's highway" to go from window to window and achieve your not so lofty goals.
You have an array of nifty weapons at your disposal. There's a number of different types of arrows you can use; water arrows to douse the lights, rope arrows to help you climb walls, noisemakers for distracting guards, and gas-tipped arrows for putting them to sleep. Personally, I found that after much frustration my most effective and favored arrow was the one that killed the guard. Call me bloodthirsty, but I go with what I know.
I did manage once to get a little ways into the inner sanctum of the bad guy place, but I still haven't been able to repeat this feat. Somehow I climbed a rope, used a flash bang to distract the guards, and ran downstairs. A few minutes later, I was dead. Ah well.
It's worth the effort to figure this one out, but I simply ran out of time. Given ample time, hard work, and perseverance, I'm sure I would still not be any good at this. It'll give you something to laugh over though, when you beat the demo, so that's got to be good for something.
