The 100000k Pyramid
Just when you thought it was safe to go back to the seventies.

Sierra has unveiled its latest game, a PC version of The $100,000 Pyramid.
Quake with fear.
The game is exactly like it was on television. Each contestant works with a celebrity to try and guess words Password-style based on a series of clues. Right answers earn you points which determine whether or not or will take on the Pyramid in the Winner's Circle. The Pyramid is faced in a series of increasingly difficult rounds. Each time you try the Winner's Circle, you'll net bigger and bigger prizes, anywhere from $5,000 to $100,000.
The music is suitably cheesy but it becomes monotonous after a while (like the seventies themselves). I finally shut it off.
It might have been more entertaining if the game were populated with real celebrities instead of the made-up ones it featured. But I understand that real celebrities cost money (except Charro), so it's completely forgivable. The primary animation consists of looped movements on the part of the celebrities and the computer representation of the user. The voice-acting is done with a little bit of flair so it's not completely boring listening to your teammate drop hints. Anyone who's played the You Don't Know Jack games will definitely see similarities.
The categories get harder as you progress in the game. Although you are allowed to save your game and come back to continue playing again, I received a nasty shock the very first time I didn't score enough points to make it to the $25,000 Winner's Circle. I was pronounced as having lost the game and my saved game was erased.
Ouch.
While this game may seem lighter fare than the majority of games out there, it would be fine for anyone eight to 80.
