Speech recognition lets you use a microphone to compare your own speech and pronunciation to that of a native speaker. The voiceprint window will compare the pitch (melody), emphasis (stress/loudness) and the form (shape of the sounds) of your pronunciation with the native speaker's.
The Dictation section helps you improve your spelling, punctuation and capitalization. When you see a picture you're asked to type the word or phrase that describes the it.
Once you've completed all of these activities, it's time for the tests.
