Most of the best-rated and loved games in the office are clones of one title or another. But its great to see the freeware audience get a low-end version of the great gameplay that has been found in survival horror games like Resident Evil.
And although the authors note that their game was inspiried by H.P. Lovecraft, anyone who has tried Resident Evil will instantly realize what they were after.
Luckily for us that is the games strong point. The 2D engine is programmed exceptionally well, preserving all the great things of the RE franchise. The small special effects add to the overall mood of the game which you'll feel from the beginning of the dialogue.
Outside of some difficult controls (mainly due to the fact that you're playing with a keyboard), Fiend is a survival horror that deserves a look.
