Display the date in the Windows tray with DateInTray, a small freeware utility.

The day of the month is displayed in the program icon, and the entire date can be seen in a “tooltip” pop-up by holding the cursor over the icon. A pop-up calendar can be accessed by clicking on the program icon. The calendar popup automatically shows the current date, and it includes arrow buttons to easily view next and previous months.
