BillMonk is a free service that makes it easy to track borrowing money and stuff between friends, using a web browser or your cell phone.
"Social money" is the informal currency between friends; for example, if I owe you $20, you can ask me to pay for your lunch tomorrow. This flow is founded on trust, not a legally binding guarantee. We coined this term in order to name an important aspect of social life. Money can stress friendships; "Neither a borrower nor a lender be, for loan oft loses both itself and friend" [Shak., Hamlet]. Our goal is to defuse the financial tensions between friends by providing a tool that manages social money in a manner that is easy and fair. Use BillMonk when you need to track money and there isn't a better way.
