IntelliRank (tm) is the ranking engine that creates an articles Newsiness score, and then sorts articles that appear in Newgie CATEGORIES.

Because CATEGORIES are fed by many news feeds from many different providers, IntelliRank has the important job of determining which articles are the most interesting and most relevant, so that the Newsiest stories are the most accessible to Newgie users. The way IntelliRank determines the score for any given article depends on many factors. The most important factors include the amount of attention an article receives from Newgie users. When users take "actions" on an article (view, recommend, make a comment, etc.), these actions are noted by IntelliRank, which then assignes a Newsiness score accordingly. Of course, scores are then decayed as time passes so that current news gets ranked higher than older news.
