I had been chasing down error messages on Partition Magic for two days. I chkdsk'ed and formatted and scrubbed and cleaned and moved and resized and did more reboots than I care to count. TWO DAYS!
Then I tried Partition Assistant. It boots up in no time. I selected the troublesome partition I was trying to resize.
Within 10 seconds PA reported that the operations were complete. They meant it! My C drive is fat with free space. No reboot. No error messages.
(Partition Magic gives the same sort of "operations complete" report but it means it has done the theoretical work and you still have to reboot for them to be carried out.)
