AutoCAD Technician - Ting Fiber

Ting is a division of Tucows, a global Internet services company. Ting shook up the mobile industry in 2012, offering fair pricing, usable interfaces and shockingly non-phone-company-like customer support. By 2016, we had over 200,000 subscribers, 150 dedicated employees in multiple locations and over 50 million dollars (US!) in annual revenue. We were also the highest rated US cellphone service by Consumer Reports.

Now we are investing millions in fiber networks and partnering with small towns to change what Americans expect from their Internet service and their Internet service provider. We have already launched Gigabit speed service in Charlottesville, Virginia, Westminster, Maryland, and Holly Springs, North Carolina. We have also started design and construction of our fiber plant in two additional markets, and plan to enter new markets in the future.

As our AutoCAD Technician, you will be responsible for various stages of the design, engineering and maintenance of the fiber optic network in each market we enter. You’ll work with a wide variety of groups inside the organization, so strong communication skills will be key.

The work you'll be doing::
  • Contributing to the design of our outside plant fiber optic networks in various regions, geographies and building types.
  • Maintaining our various fiber plants in our GIS-based fiber maintenance system.
  • Participating in creating production-ready construction designs for both internal and external use.
  • Preparing drawings, sketches and other graphic representations of engineering designs using design software.
  • Developing and defining optimal routes using various types of construction. (i.e. aerial, trenching, boring, etc.)

The skills and background you'll bring:
  • Bachelor of Engineering or related field is required.
  • Experience with AutoCAD is required.
  • Experience with ESRI/GIS software is a plus.
  • General knowledge of fiber networks is a plus.
  • A desire and ability to learn new technologies is key, as this landscape changes daily.
  • Great verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work hard in a fast-paced, self-directed, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Ability to occasionally travel to the U.S. will be required.
